Jonathon Trumbull was born in Lebanon, Connecticut on October 10, 1710. He graduated from Harvard Law School. After he graduated from Harvard in 1927, he got his license as a Congregational minister in 1930. He became a full-time merchant in 1931 after his brother was lost at sea. ose him to become the upper-house deputy of assembly. He was the youngest assistant in 18th century Connecticut. He worked really hard at his job. In the year 1735, he married Faith Robinson. She was from Duxbury, Massachusetts. They had six children. The four sons, Joseph, Jonathon Jr., David, and John, were all in the Revolutionary War. He kept at his merchant
business and partnered with Elisha Williams and Joseph Pitkin. He gathered a large debt trying to get direct trade with England. in 1765, Trumbull walked out when Governor Fitch took a required oath of support. In 1766, Trumbull was elected deputy Governor and then in 1769, he was elected Governor. He got a good relationship with General Washington. Because of that, Trumbull got a lot of food and weapons for the Continental Army. He retired in 1784. He urged the people to get a stronger central government. Connecticut became the "Provision Sate" mostly because of Jonathon Trumbull. He later on died on August 17, 1785. With him as governor, there was a big change in the power that a governor has.
